“Can Trump’s Reputation Rebound? Examining Approval and Amnesia

In the last few months, President Donald Trump’s image has taken a dramatic turn. This has left many people wondering if it is simply recognition of the good job the president has done, or is it evidence of a collective amnesia towards the president’s past wrongdoings.

Since taking office, President Trump has been on a mission to improve his image, and at times, he has succeeded. Recent comments from some prominent civil rights activists like Ben Jealous and Al Sharpton are testament to this. They praised President Trump’s version of criminal justice reform, showing that the President may have finally earned some support from within the progressive ranks.

In addition, President Trump recently made headlines when he called on Congress to enact his new immigration proposal, which is a path to citizenship for children of immigrants who were born in the United States. This move has earned praise from both sides of the aisle, which was expected, given the heated debates regarding Trump’s initial immigration ban.

His latest economic plan also received a lot of positive response from both parties, though some economists argue that the plan may not be beneficial to the working class. Nonetheless, the support for the presidents’ policies could be a sign that his approval ratings will likely go up.

On the other hand, some believe that the change in people’s opinion of the president may be due to collective amnesia. Trump’s reputation has been marred by numerous controversies since before he was inaugurated, and these may have faded from the public’s memory. This would explain why some people, including those in the traditional and progressive circles, could be more favourably disposed to his policy decisions despite his questionable past.

It is difficult to say whether the improved perception of the president is due to approval or amnesia. However, it is clear that people evolve and learn from mistakes, and thus, it is not hard to believe that over the years President Trump has become better at his job and this, in turn, does wonders for his approval ratings.
