Honda has announced a recall of more than 2.5 million cars due to a potential fuel pump issue. Honda Motor Co, the Japan-based automaker, is recalling the vehicles for a potentially defective fuel pump, which could cause the engine to stall while driving.
The recall covers certain Honda and Acura models from the 2016-2020 model years, including the Civic, CR-V, HR-V, Odyssey, Pilot, and Ridgeline models. Acura models include the ILX, MDX, NSX, RDX and TLX. This recall only applies to specific vehicles manufactured on or before December 12, 2019.
Honda is aware of one accident caused by a stalling issue in a recalled vehicle. Although Honda hasn’t yet identified the issue as a fuel pump defect, the recall is underway in the interest of customer safety. Honda recommends that any affected vehicles be taken in for inspection and repair.
The recall is estimated to affect more than 2.5 million cars in the United States and possibly around the world. Honda owners can check if their vehicles are included in the recall by entering the VIN at the Honda recall website. Hearing impaired customers may call 1-888-234-2138.
Honda is asking customers to take their vehicles to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer for inspection and repairs. These repairs are free of charge and will be completed as soon as parts become available. The recall is expected to begin in late July 2020.
Honda is taking this step in the interest of customer safety and emphasizing that affected customers should immediately take their vehicles in for inspection and repair. The recall does not apply to any other Honda or Acura models not listed.
