The judge in Donald Trump’s Manhattan criminal trial on Tuesday issued the strongest jail threat the former president has yet faced in any of his legal proceedings. While holding Trump in contempt of court, New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan suggested that the maximum $1,000 fines he was legally able to levy for each of Trump’s nine gag-order violations weren’t enough.
